When it comes to painting jobs, delivering a perfect finish will be your top priority, as this results in a happy customer, positive reviews and potentially even repeat business. However, this also requires a careful balance with speed and productivity. After all, the more jobs you can complete
in a month, the better for you and your profitability.
Dillon Cilliers, Senior Product Manager at Valspar Trade, shares his recommendations on getting top results, without cutting corners.
How important is speed and efficiency during the application process?
As a professional painter and decorator, you’ll be looking to produce the best results for your clients and customers, but why should this be at the expense of time? The perfect finish on every job is non-negotiable; however, ease of application and productivity should be too.
Completing jobs both to a high standard and efficiently can mean you are able to take on more work which is better for your customers, your work diary and your wallet. We have put a lot of work and testing into our formulations to make life easier for you, the applier. But what should you be looking out for?
Limiting lap marks and for a consistent finish
Noticeable ‘picture framing’ causing you a headache? To decrease the chances of this occurring, and reduce the time spent fixing the issue, select a paint that is specifically formulated with an extended wet-edge time so you can finish the application across a complete surface, avoiding lap marks and securing a flawless finish.
Superior coverage with fewer coats
Perhaps the biggest impact on your time spent on site will be the number of coats required to fully cover the substrate. Good coverage ensures your paint can go a long way, reducing the number of coats required. Put simply, better coverage equals less paint and faster results.
Opting for a paint that includes extenders within the formula can help the product cover an extra square metre or two, as well as improving a paint’s opacity, ensuring colour consistency with a more uniform finish.
Make it easier with a sprayable finish
How does a smooth finish with a faster application process sound?
Selecting a paint formulation that can be sprayed means that whatever the project, you are always able to produce a seamless finish with ease.
Applying with a sprayer also makes it easy to achieve colour consistency across larger scale jobs, with less physical work compared to traditional painting methods.
Stay productive with less clean-up
A big concern faced when completing projects is paint spatter and area cleanliness. Of course, dust sheets are there to capture drops and residue paint, but this isn’t always effective. Occasionally paint can make its way through or sneak onto glass windows or other painted surfaces.
Incorporating low spatter paint means a far easier and cleaner job, regardless of the chosen applicator.
